Today we’re heading down to your neighborhood’s local grill and bar to try what might be one of the most affordable mozzarella sticks and give them an official Mudry’s Mozz taste test. Yes, we’re talking about Applebee’s mozzarella sticks!
9 times out of 10 Applebee’s mozzarella sticks will come served on a metal-looking rectangular plate, stacked two high, and served with a rich cup of marinara sauce. Sometimes you’ll get a traditional plate, cheese sticks scattered about, with a plastic cup, which does detract from the overall presentation value of the product.
All of the cheese sticks on the plate are almost always golden brown, crispy looking, and usually have some sort of seasoning sprinkled on them.
The cup of marinara sauce is served in a plain plastic black cup, but not your typical weak ketchup holder. This is some solid hard plastic!
When it comes to taking your first bite, Applebees does not mess around. The first (and freshest) cheese sticks you bit into will stretch as far as the eye can see. Sometimes you’ll stretch get more cheese than you can consume in one gulp, so wrap that sucker around the fried shell, dip and go for another bite.
The light, golden brown breading is tasty and worth finishing even if the cheese sometimes slides out. I recommend eating your mozzarella sticks quick and early once they hit the table to avoid the slippage though. The marinara, while simple and traditional, is warm and tasty as well.
Make sure your napkin is ready, as you’ll need to brush off crumbs after each bite.
Applebee’s mozzarella sticks are delicious, and best of all are always available on their famous half-priced apps menu. You can’t go wrong with half prized cheese sticks! Pair them with your favorite 2 for $20 plates (although, it seems like this is now a 2 for $22 menu), and you’ll surely have a filling meal and appetizer combo.
Applebee’s surly knows what they’re doing when it comes to mozzarella sticks. They’re amazing and create a quite magical dining experience.
