I have some great news for those of you who have been following my progress on my latest hobby project, Lost in Space.

As of a few days ago, I wrapped up the core of the game, polished it up, and submitted it to Apple for App Store approval. This means that in just a few weeks the game will be available for you to play!

Additionally, due to the name Lost In Space being taken on the App Store, I’ve had to make a small change to the name, and I decided to call it Lost In Space: Zero Gravity. I feel like that’s a great name for the game.

What is Lost In Space: Zero Gravity?

App-Icon-1024Lost In Space: Zero Gravity is a very simple endless runner. In the game, you are simply an astronaut drifting out into the void that is space. You must dodge asteroids to stay alive. I was inspired to create this game after I watched the movie Gravity, and now it’s finally releasing.

I won’t lie to you and say that it’s anything crazy special like Jetpack Joyride, or any other huge endless runner on the App Store or Android marketplace.

What it is though has been a learning experience for me. I’ve used this simple endless runner game project to learn how to use certain plugins, APIs, and so forth to help my game development career. I’ve implemented Game Analytics, a wonderful analytical tracking tool. I’ve also added in support for Game Center, which will allow achievements and learderboards.

How Much Will Lost In Space: Zero Gravity Cost?

The game will be completely free to play. Based on how simple the gameplay is, I don’t feel it’s a game worth paying upfront for, especially with its current feature set.

However, as I previously mentioned, I’ve been using this game as a learning experience and an experiment. I have added in two advertisement networks: iAd and Unity Ads. I’ve wanted to see how these ad networks perform and use this is a knowledge base for any future projects I may implement advertisements into.

Upcoming Updates

Lost-In-Space-iPad-LeaderboardsWhile what I’m launching in a few weeks will be just the core game, you can already start to see where I want to take this project.

There is currently coins that you can collect, but cannot spend. These will be used to buy upgrades and powerups in a store. This will be added in one of the upcoming updates.

Additionally, I want to do a few other neat things, but I haven’t settled 100% on what exactly. When the game does launch, I’ll have a list of planned updates posted, so you can keep track of what’s to come!

What’s Next?

Well, like many people, I do not want to be stuck on one single game project for the rest of my life.

While I’ll be working on new updates for this game, I’ll also be starting work on a few other game projects.

I already teased one on Twitter the other day when I asked for suggestions for hats… and currently that project has been rolling along very smoothly. I can’t wait till I have more to share about it!
